Emergency Tips

Electrical Sparks and Arcs

If you notice Electrical Sparks and Arcs from any of your Built In Electric Appliances such as your Heater, Water Heater, Boiler, Air Circulation Fans (or any other Electrical Appliance), the very first thing to do is locate and shut off the Electrical Circuit Breaker before calling a Plumber (or Electrician, if the problem isn't related to your heating system).

While this may seem like a common sense thing to do, many people don't know where their Electrical Circuit Breakers are. You may want to locate the Electrical Circuit Breaker Box before an emergency. It may be inside or outside of the structure, and there may be more than one, in the case of garages or other outbuildings on the property, so check throughly.

Then notify all family members of the location, and demonstrate how to turn them off. Consider having them each do it as well, so they know what to do during an emergency.
